Have you ever experienced difficulty in holding objects which need secure grasping or feel like hiding yourself because of your embarrassing sweat spots under the armpits or you may have noticed that people are avoiding you just because you smell a lot. People suffering from excessive sweating suffer embarrassments and it reduces their self esteem and proficiency in the work. Although they take every preventive measure to counter this problem by using antiperspirants or deodorants or by changing their shirts quite often but these measure were not sufficient.
The people affected with these symptoms must know that excessive sweating is not normal and they are suffering from a disease called hyperhidrosis. It is the condition characterized by abnormally over sensitivity of sweat glands present under the dermis layer. However a person can be suffered from generalized hyperhidrosis (all around the body) or specific hyperhidrosis (Specific part of the body likes hands, feet, and armpits). Sweating is a normal phenomenon of the body. Body releases sweat to regulate the body temperature but when it secretes too much, it becomes a nuisance.
Excessive sweating can be inherited or it can be acquired due to disorder in thyroid or pituitary glands, diabetes, overweight, hormonal disturbances, and gout, and menopause, side effects of drugs or by mercury poisoning. The reason could be any one or combination of two or three diseases together combined together to create a havoc in one life. Though the exact cause is still unknown but there are some psychological problems like nervousness or excitement can trigger this situation to its worst condition. Other factors like food, drinks, nicotine, caffeine and fragrances can aggregate the situation.
Sweat glands are tiny glands that are present under the dermis layer of the skin. Our body gets messages from hypothalamus (most active part of the brain) and regulates the sweat secretion. Under normal conditions, it messages were decoded by the sweat glands and thus secrete normal secretion. But person suffering from hyperhidrosis, hypothalamus disobeys the order and produces large volumes of sweat. The high volume of sweat reacts with the clothes and cosmetics thus produces odor which is quite unbearable by the patient as well as its co-workers.
In the early stages of hyperhidrosis, it can be prevented by using talc, baby powder, and deodorants. Cotton based fabrics in white or light colors also helps to absorb the excessive perspiration. Wearing more absorbent materials protects you and decreases the sweat considerably. Absorbent breathable cotton shoes with friendly insoles reduces the sweat and foot tablets in fingers decreases the chances of eczema and irritation. Weight management and meditation also help to control the excessive sweat. Control over stress and frustration helps to tackle this problem easily.
Excessive sweating is a problem but it can be cured. Don’t let this problem to overtake you other wise it has devastating emotional effects can ruin your life.
