Do You Know What’s Going On Your Skin? by Louise Forrest

How does your skin handle tanning (sometimes burning), chapping (or windburn), and other elements? Often dry tight skin is the result of the seasonal elements as well as normal bathing. Caring for your skin throughout the year is very important to the organ.

Organic care of it gives it an added advantage since it is not attempting to fight off various man made pollutants from the various non organic cleansers, moisturizers, etc. As you age, your skin s health becomes even more important, making many wish that they had taken better care of it while they were younger. Your skin is a life long organ which does a number of things for you, making it ever important, no matter your age.

An extremely important aspect of your skins overall health is its moisture level. Dehydrated skin tends to chap, dry, and crack, giving openings for various bacteria and viruses to enter the body. Using good moisturizers is one of the major tricks in improving and maintaining the skin s overall condition.

Moisturizers are a combination of water (for hydration) and fats/oils to lock in the water. Through this, skin appears more supple, which helps maintain a more youthful appearance. Many prefer lighter moisturizers during the day and heavier ones at night.

The lighters ones absorb into the skin more readily because they are mainly water, but they also disappear quickly. Heavier moisturizers contain less water and are often applied to damp skin immediately after bathing. These have a longer staying power due to having more fats/oils in them. A combination of both ingredients is necessary for skin health.

Get your favorite moisturizer and you will find a list of ingredients like: Cetyl Alcohol, Caprylic Triglyceride, Dimethicone, and Cyclopentasiloxane among a million other words you cannot pronounce, much less begin to know what they are or where they were derived from. Did you ever wonder exactly what you were putting on your face?

If you turn another direction and think organic skin care, especially homemade organic products, you will usually know exactly what you are putting on your face. The best way to know what is going on your face is to make your moisturizer at home, using organic products. Keep in mine that you need to buy organically grown ingredients when making these.

Non organic products tend to have traces of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in them, which will still leave you wondering what you are using. These moisturizers should only be made up for one week and stored in the refrigerator because the lack of preservatives.

Organic Moisturizer #1: This organic moisturizer is great for very dry skin and, provided there is no adverse reaction (a small area should be tested), it can be a heavenly organic skin treatment for eczema and psoriasis patients. Most of these ingredients can be purchased online if you cannot find them in your local health food store, but the royal jelly needs to be purchased as a refrigerated product, so local purchase is recommended. You will need a large, microwave safe bowl, and a quart sized canning jar with a lid (some people know these as Mason Jars), and an electric mixer.

For tired feet, try this foot soak. You can do it in a foot bath/massager, a tub, a sink, etc. The where and how does not matter, it will invigorate you tootsies! Add 1/4 cup Epsom Salt and 4 drops organic rosemary (or peppermint) essential oil to 3 gallons warm water and soak your feet for 15 to 20 minutes. Apply organic moisturizer afterwards. Adding organic milk to this will help soften your skin because milk has a natural alpha hydroxy acid in it.

Every one has problem areas on their feet from time to time. These quick solutions will help you combat your dry skin problem areas.

3 ounces beeswax
1 1/2 cups blended oils (this can be any combination of essential oils that you prefer in any ratio; a nice combination is 1/ 2 cup each of apricot kernel oil, grape seed oil and jojoba.
1 cup coconut oil or cocoa butter (if you used jojoba above, you will probably prefer coconut oil here)
2 teaspoons grapefruit seed extract (necessary for preservation)
3 teaspoons royal jelly (purchase active, refrigerated jelly from health food stores)
24 ounces distilled water at room temperature (ONLY use distilled for bacterial reasons)

In your large, microwave safe bowl, combine the oils and beeswax and microwave on high in small increments (2 minutes each, for example) until wax is completely melted. Remove from microwave and add the water. Mix on high until creamy. Stir in both the royal jelly and the grapefruit seed extract, making sure that they are thoroughly blended (about 50 strokes).

Put mixture into the canning jar and keep refrigerated for up to six months. This also makes a great gift for friends and loved ones with just a little decoration and a personalized tag added to the jar.

Organic Moisturizer #2: Mix the following ingredients and apply immediately after showering (or bathing), then let dry, do not rub off.
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1/ 2 cup honey
1 cup cold water

Eczema is a disease in a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the epidermis. The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes that are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration may appear and are sometimes due to healed lesions, although scarring up is rare. In contrast to psoriasis, eczema is often likely to be found on the flexor aspect of joints.
