Why use detergent sulfate laden commercial soaps on your skin? There are many advantages to using 100% natural homemade “green” soap products – namely soft healthy “glowing” skin. My daughter has mild eczema; it runs in the girls on our side of the family. We have to be very careful with the skin care products she uses. She is why I started researching exactly what causes the rashes after using most modern skin care lotions; even common sun tanning lotions causes her skin to break out in uncomfortable rashes. Most cheaply made commercial soaps are advertised as having moisturizing agents – but actually there are minimal moisturizing oils in commercial soaps – almost all of which is neutralized by the lye. In fact, most commercial soaps strip the skin of their vital moisturizing agents! So I started experimenting with making my own handmade, sulfate free, all organic richly lathering moisturizing soaps. I use either olive oil, or 100 percent pure coconut oil (the primary lathering and moisturizing agent), various herbs from my greenhouse and garden, made from scratch with pure artesian water, to blend and make my own cold process soaps.

All of my handmade organic soaps can be used by men or women, but the men in my house prefer vanilla-sage, or my blue spruce soaps. Sage is a natural anti-bacterial agent; and the pungent aroma of vanilla blends well organic sage. I have many handmade unscented natural soaps to choose from. Oatmeal soaps are natural exfoliates, and I have exfoliating sponge soaps as well. These ultra moisturizing handmade soaps make great unique and inexpensive gifts – perfect for the “green” conscious person.
