It is difficult for any parent when their child doesn’t feel well. Children who suffer with this condition want to immediate relief. As their parent, you may feel that you have to purchase expensive products or get prescriptions. These tactics will work, but there are more natural ways to reduce your child’s skin inflammation. You will learn how bathing and other water techniques can reduce eczema.
You need to make sure that your child performs proper bathing techniques in order to prevent further inflammation. You should make sure they bathe in warm water with no bubbles; as bubbles can dry the skin. Also, do not use any artificially scented soap or shampoo. Make doubly sure that you apply a natural, organic moisturizer to their skin after the bath. This will help the skin retain the moisture in their bodies. In addition to proper bathing, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Keep their bodies hydrated will also benefit their skin.
Another method used to soften your child’s skin, retain moisture, and relieve itching is through wet dressings. This should be done right before bedtime. First you will need to apply a steroid cream to their skin. This can be done after a bath. Then you will take one of you child’s sleepers or pajamas and soak in warm water. You will then wring out the sleep to remove all excess water. You only want to the sleeper to be a little damp. Dress your child in his or her dampened sleeper and then cover it with dry sleepers. Make sure your child’s room is warm enough to sleep in.
Your child will most likely protest this, but you need to be firm about the need to do this. Wet dressings work through the steady evaporation of water. This causes a constant stimulation of sensory nerve endings inside the skin. Your child’s skin will be constantly cooling which will prevent the itching sensation to be detected. This process also restores humidity to your child’s dry skin and enhances the effects of the applied steroid cream. Also, your child won’t be able to scratch their skin so easily. Your child’s doctor can instruct you on how often to use this water technique to reduce their eczema.
